| Peter Carl Faberge was born of French ancestry in Russia in 1846. As a young man he nurtured his love of fine custom hand-made jeweled and gold pieces and eventually traveled to Germany to serve an apprenticeship to refine his designing skills and crastmanship with master goldsmiths. Returning to Russia, he joined his father at his custom jewelry workshop in St. Petersburg, Russia. At a jewelry fine-arts exhibition in Moscow, Czar Alexander III purchased a beautiful Faberge jeweled egg that Peter Carl Faberge hand made and gave to his beautiful wife, the Czarina Maria for a gift. The Czarina was so extremely pleased at the beauty, intricacy, jewels, enameling and artistry of the piece that she asked her husband to commission Peter Carl Faberge to make her a bejeweled egg each and every year. Faberge's beautiful jeweled pieces then received worldwide acclaim which continues to this very day... |
